The Ten Mile River Watershed covers 54 square miles of Southeastern Massachusetts and parts of Northeastern Rhode Island, it is the smallest of 27 watersheds in Massachusetts. The headwater of the river begins in the towns of Plainville and Foxboro , as the Seven Mile river and the Bungay River respectively, the two major tributaries. The upper reaches of the Seven Mile river have been classified as Class A waters , and the Bungay supports a small trout fishery. There are 45 lakes and ponds in the watershed totaling 1296 acre's, and several towns draw their drinking water from the watershed. The river travels through 5 more cities and towns before reaching the Seekonk River at Omega falls, the river becomes more impaired as it passes through urban areas failing to meet surface water quality standards . Even with this impaired status. Central Pond and The Turner Reservoir located in East Providence supports a good large mouth bass fishery and a native alewife/herring run that has been helped by local fishermen . presently there are plans to build three fish ladders to aid the fish in their travels to spawn in Central Pond and Turner Reservoir.
