The council started in May of 06 with a group of friends, who have enjoyed using the Ten Mile River for kayaking. The first goal was just to get better access to the river for kayaking. We were motivated by a meeting that was held at Slaters Mill to promote the building of Blueways, which are water trails with well marked routes and proper boat launches. The group soon found out that there wasn't a active watershed group for the Ten Mile River, so the friends decided to start one. We have taken on clearing the river from Freedom Green Park on North Broadway East Providence up river to the Hunts Mills water falls, a round trip of 2.75 miles that can be paddled in less then two hours. We also have cleared from Central ave. Pawtucket ,down river to Pawtucket Country Club, where you have to portage around a small dam. This trail will lead you to another river section behind Salters Park and along the bike path ending at Central pond , once at Central pond you can take out at Kimberly Rock field or continue to Newman Ave. River clearing trip |
